A little bit about me
I’m a product designer, currently living in Amsterdam working at funda, a dutch real estate marketplace. At funda I’m responsible for the consumer experience of providing relevant insights for home buyers, as well as potential home sellers.
Prior to that I worked on Peerby, a peer-to-peer sharing economy marketplace, in which a neighbor could lend or rent any tool from a neighbor through a simple request. it is here that I fell in love with the startup way of validating hypotheses and prototyping ideas, fast. I try to bring this build-measure-learn mindset in all the projects I take on.
Next to my focus on design, I also really enjoy organising workshops to not only bring people, but also knowledge together. I truly believe in the power of co-creation, by taking the time to analyze a problem thoroughly and finding the best solutions (together). From 5-day design sprints and 24 hour-hackathons up to 2 hour pressure-cooker ideation sessions, there’s a place and a time for all of them.
I love challenging myself and over the years have jumped into many projects without prior existing experience of a certain tool or process, as those are the opportunities to expand your knowledge and learn something new. There’s almost nothing that makes me happier than exploring a new tool and getting inspired due to its new capabilities.
When I’m not fidgeting with new tools, I spend my time listening (true crime) podcasts, reading a book or watching some football.

"I remember 3 years ago, Rick presented his case for his interview at funda and I was immediately impressed. Not only did he design an innovative solution, he presented it in a way that showed that he solved a real problem for real people. In the years after he kept surprising me by how he expanded his skillset. Just to name few: (remote) creative facilitation, interaction and visual design, advanced prototyping, user research and usability testing. This inspired me and I learned a lot! That's why I'm very confident that Rick is the type of person that you want in your team."
Daniar Gita Suprianto
FE Developer
"I know Rick for 4 years working together, we're in the same team from the beginning at Funda. My favourite thing about working with him is he's very open to feedback. He always keeps the team members in the feedback loop for his designs. Rick has strong reasoning behind every decision he makes and definitely one of the most critical person I've worked with. If something doesn't have a clear value, he would question it. As a person I can say he is direct, but he cares and has a strong sympathy towards other people. He's available when needed and undoubtedly helpful to everyone."
Ilse Blom
Research Lead
"Rick is a great person and product designer to work with. He has strong analytical skills and knows how to leverage a wide variety of data sources and validation methods to inform not only his own decisions but also those on a product strategy level. He is not afraid to challenge critical assumptions and in doing so making sure that what gets built is truly desirable, viable and easy to use. Next to that Rick has the unique talent to break complex product and design challenges down into more digestible and lean steps as well as rallying stakeholders. He is also very skilled at organising and running in-person and remote workshops of all sorts. Those always have a clear goal and are very engaging and fun to participate in."
Caesar Zwolle
Product Designer
"Rick and I have worked together for several years (within a startup and a corporate) and I can highly recommend working with him. He is sincere, friendly and intelligent. His design skills span the range from lean experimentation to in-depth UX/UI design. His qualities as an integrator and team player make him a valuable asset for any product team that is pushing the envelope."
Deborah Nas
Professor / Innovation Expert
"Rick joined our team as an intern for a few months in 2015. He quickly proved to be a valuable addition to the team. Rick is an incredibly smart guy with good social skills. In my opinion he was one of the best interns we’ve had!"
Nathalie Toeset
Director Product Development
"Together with 4 fellow students Rick has done a remarkable job in developing an overall product-service concept for Liberty to build upon going forward. Very interactive collaboration and each team member contributed from their own expertise. After initial customer and desk research they delivered a very original product concept, go to market strategy and an accompanying long-term roadmap. Great work!"
